Research suggests that students need frequent retrieval practice and regular review of their prior learning in order to make progress. Rehearsing and reviewing information ‘little and often’ helps to strengthen connections between prior knowledge and new learning.
Planning in this regular review can be time-consuming, especially with a whole class of students who may be working on different topics and at different stages.
How does Doodle help students to review their learning?
Doodle is designed to regularly revise prior topics, especially when students have struggled with them previously. Students will answer similar questions so they have a chance to practice what they’ve learned and strengthen their understanding, building to mastery of each concept.
The questions within the programs are varied enough that learning isn’t just by rote, but formatted in familiar ways so that students can build their confidence.
This is all completely automatic and personalized to each student once they are set up and using the program, with no setting or marking required!
Doodle can also help you understand misconceptions students have through the Tricky Questions feature. If a student gets a question wrong 3 times, they’ll be prompted to add the question to Tricky Questions. This saves the question in their Learning Zone so they can look at it later with an adult or peer.
When the student is ready, they can choose to go back and try the questions they’ve saved again with someone to help. This allows you to unpick any misunderstandings. Once the question is answered, the same or similar questions will appear in the student’s X-a-day so they can review what they’ve learned.
Top tip: Teachers can see questions that students have saved as 'Tricky' on the Work program > View understanding page.
